Globe Valve
What Are Globe Valves?
Globe valves are linear-motion industrial valves designed primarily for flow regulation and shut-off service. The name derives from their spherical body shape, which houses a movable disc or plug that seats against a stationary ring to control fluid passage. Unlike gate valves, which are used fully open or fully closed, globe valves are well suited for throttling applications where precise flow control is required.
Available through the Honiks sourcing network, globe valves are supplied in both standard and bellow seal configurations. Standard globe valves provide reliable service for general industrial applications, while bellow seal globe valves incorporate a multi-ply metallic bellow assembly to help reduce stem-leakage risk — an advantage for steam, thermal oil, and hazardous media service where environmental and safety requirements call for tighter external-emission control.
Globe valves sourced by Honiks cover EN/DIN and ANSI product families. EN/DIN reference coverage is DN15–DN400 and PN16–PN40. ANSI ranges are model-specific: HN69 and HN70 are globe/gate families with 1/2–3 inch and 2–16 inch reference sizes respectively, both with Class 150–1500 references; HN102 is NPS 1/2–24 and Class 150–2500; HN103 is NPS 2–12 and Class 900/1500/2500. These ranges vary by pressure class, end connection and configuration. Forged globe valves for compact high-pressure small-bore service are also available; confirm size, class, material and end connection against the product page and approved project documents.
Bellow Seal vs Standard Globe Valves
Standard globe valves rely on compression packing around the stem to prevent leakage. They are cost-effective and widely used for general industrial applications where occasional gland adjustment is acceptable.
Bellow seal globe valves replace the primary stem seal with a welded multi-ply metallic bellow, creating a dynamic yet leak-tight barrier. A secondary packing ring serves as an emergency backup. This design is preferred for steam systems, thermal oil circuits, chemical processing lines with hazardous media, and vacuum service where atmospheric ingress must be prevented.
EN/DIN and ANSI Globe Valves
Honiks can source globe valves to both European and American standards:
EN/DIN globe valves: DN15-DN400, PN16-PN40. Manufactured to EN12516-1, EN1092-1 and EN558-1. Flanged or butt-welded connections are standard.
ANSI globe valve configurations: Model-specific reference ranges include HN69 and HN70 globe/gate families, HN102 NPS 1/2–24 with Class 150–2500 references, and HN103 NPS 2–12 with Class 900/1500/2500 references, subject to pressure class, end connection and configuration. Flanged, butt-welded, socket-welded and threaded options apply only to selected models and configurations; confirm the final valve type, size, class, material and end connection against the product page and approved project documents.
Forged globe valves: Compact forged steel bodies for high-pressure small-bore service (DN15-DN50 / 1/2 inch-2 inch typical) with pressure ratings up to PN160 in EN/DIN or Class 1500 in ANSI.
Materials and Service Conditions
Typical material options available through the Honiks network include carbon steel (A216 WCB), alloy steel (A217 WC6 for elevated temperature) and stainless steel (A351 CF8M for corrosive service). Seat and disc materials — 13Cr, Stellite, or other hard-facing alloys — are selected based on the service medium and operating conditions. Working temperature and pressure ratings are material-dependent and should be selected according to the applicable P-T rating table.
