What Are ANSI Valves?
ANSI valves are industrial valves designed and manufactured to American National Standards Institute (ANSI) standards, which are widely adopted in North America and in international projects where American engineering standards are specified. ANSI valve standards cover dimensions, materials, pressure-temperature ratings, testing and marking — providing a consistent framework for valve specification, procurement and interchangeability across manufacturers.
Available through the Honiks sourcing network, ANSI product families currently include bellow-seal globe/gate (HN69/HN70), cast-steel gate, globe and swing-check valves (HN100/HN102/HN104), pressure-seal gate and globe valves (HN101/HN103), and floating/fixed ball valves (HN105/HN106), plus other ANSI-referenced products in the catalog. The exact size, Class, material, end connection, test scope and documentation depend on the offered model and project requirements. Common dimensional references include ANSI B16.5 for flanged connections, ANSI B16.25 for butt-welded ends and ANSI B16.10 for face-to-face dimensions.
Inch Sizes and Class Pressure Ratings
ANSI valves use two key conventions that differ from European EN/DIN standards:
Inch sizes: Nominal pipe sizes are expressed in inches rather than millimetres. Current published model references range from NPS 1/2 to NPS 48 across selected ANSI series, and not every model reaches either endpoint: HN69 is 1/2–3 inch, HN70 is 2–16 inch, HN100 is NPS 2–48, HN101 is NPS 2–36, HN102 is NPS 1/2–24, HN103 is NPS 2–12, HN104 is NPS 2–36, HN105 is NPS 1/2–12 and HN106 is NPS 2–48. Confirm the model-specific size table before quotation.
Class pressure ratings: ANSI pressure ratings are expressed as Class numbers. Current published model references span Class 150 through Class 2500 across selected series, but the range is not common to every product: HN69/HN70 reference Class 150–1500; HN100/HN102/HN104/HN106 reference Class 150–2500; HN101/HN103 reference Class 900/1500/2500; and HN105 reference Class 150/300/600. Allowable working pressure depends on material, temperature, selected Class and the applicable ASME B16.34 pressure-temperature data; confirm the offered configuration before quotation.
ANSI B16.5, B16.10 and B16.25 Options
Key ANSI dimensional standards relevant to the valves supplied through Honiks include:
ANSI B16.5: Governs flanged connections — flange dimensions, drilling patterns, facing types and pressure-temperature ratings for pipe flanges and flanged fittings. Flanged ANSI valves in our catalogue are supplied with B16.5-compliant raised face flanges.
ANSI B16.10: Standardises face-to-face and end-to-end dimensions for valves, ensuring that valves from different manufacturers are physically interchangeable within the same pipeline configuration.
ANSI B16.25: Covers butt-welding end preparation for valves — bevel angles, wall thickness transitions and root face dimensions to ensure proper weld fit-up in the field.
For gate valve configurations, API 600 provides relevant design and testing guidance. For the bellow seal stem design, which is not addressed by API 600, quality control and pressure testing are coordinated through our supplier network based on project-specific requirements.
Bellow Seal Globe and Gate Valve Applications
Bellow-seal configurations are one part of the ANSI range available through Honiks. Where specified, the bellows assembly may help reduce stem-leakage risk; final valve type, size, Class, material, end connection and qualification documents must be confirmed for the offered configuration. Typical ANSI bellow-seal applications include:
Oil and gas production and processing: Wellhead isolation, gathering systems, gas processing and refinery piping where fugitive emission control is a regulatory requirement.
Petrochemical plants: Process lines handling volatile organic compounds, hazardous chemicals and high-temperature hydrocarbons.
High-pressure steam: ANSI Class 600-1500 steam distribution and auxiliary systems in power generation and industrial steam plants.
Natural gas transmission: Pipeline isolation and compressor station valving where stem leakage represents both a safety concern and a product loss issue.
Chemical processing: Plant piping systems requiring reliable emission sealing for environmental compliance and workplace safety.
Documentation and Quality Control
For ANSI valve procurement through Honiks, typical documentation includes material test certificates per the applicable ASTM material standard, pressure test reports per API 598 or the project-specified testing standard, and dimensional inspection records.
