What Are Floating Ball Valves?
A floating ball valve uses a ball that is not supported by trunnion bearings. Under line pressure, the ball is pressed against the downstream seat, creating the seal. The ball “floats” between the upstream and downstream seats, and the sealing force increases with line pressure. This design is well suited for smaller to medium sizes and moderate pressure classes where the operating torque remains manageable.
